Pupils normally transfer to Ferndale Community School at the end of Year 6 in their Primary School. We have five feeder primary schools, namely Maerdy Primary, Darren Park Primary, Tylorstown Primary, Pontygwaith and Penrhys Primary. The allocation of places at Ferndale Community School is carried out by RCT LA based on set criteria supplied to parents.

Ferndale Community School has an excellent relationship with its primary cluster of schools. The schools in the Ferndale cluster have a joint transition plan which outlines the strategy and planning to ensure curricular and pastoral continuity and progression between the primary and secondary phases.

The transition programme for Years  5 and 6 includes visits by pupils to Ferndale Community  School to sample a variety of learning experiences, meet with the school staff, and to provide information and further enrichment activities. There is an Open Evening in the Summer Term of year 6 where parents/carers can meet all the key school staff.

We recognise that during the transition process the welfare, happiness and educational progress of the child must be paramount.
